PBK9, the pigment known as bone black,is a pigment made out of calcined (charred) bones. Though mostly sourced from animals, some human remains were used (Phosphate being a key ingredient in fertilizer and bone char being used for beet sugar processing at the start of the 19th century).Memento Mori
