Forty years ago this week Gaelic-medium education in Scotland began, in Inverness and Glasgow. Last year 5,862 pupils were enrolled. A great success story for Gaelic but there are challenges on every front, including teacher recruitment, resourcing and linguistic attainment, and progress is slow
