I believe the basin is no longer a major source of crude, it's in serious decline now and the major reserve is extra-heavy crude from the Orinoco Belt.

That's not the my point. They can process tarsands too, but both are sold at a discount to refiners.

The majority of Venezuela's enormous oil reserves consist of heavy and extra-heavy crude oil that requires significant upgrading and is more expensive to produce. Very similar to Canada's situation.

It's ironic that libertarian Alberta, wants Canada to prop up an industry that's in decline. While much less expensive renewables and batteries are quickly making all these projects white elephants.

I think the good news for the world is the rest of world is quickly finding the need for LNG, tarsands or new nuclear is dissappearing. The bad news for Canada is we're putting all this effort into white elephants.

Who said anything about accepting this. I'm just pointing out that recent immigrants are more vulnerable to this. Just like Italian immigrants to Canada were victimized by the mafia when they first came to Canada.

The Bishnoi Gang apparently mainly targets the south Asian community many of whom are immigrants. So do you punish the victims for the deeds of the perpetrators? This is not new, immigrant communities have been vulnerable to this type crime since Canada was founded.
