THEN consider what happens to a university when essentially all its research faculty— ESPECIALLY the ones who publish most widely, and so are most likely to win grant funding— are cut off from our biggest sources of research support. EVERY university in the US faces this under the SAFE Research Act.

I study plants endemic to the US, and my publication "productivity" reflects my position at a teaching university, and I'm still pretty sure I have a co-authorship that, under the SAFE Research Act, would get me banned from federal research funding— multiply that risk model across all of US academia

I am a proud citizen. I do not have my citizenship status on my license b/c I deliberately do not want it to be only noncitizens in an easily-identifiable category from their license. I now carry a different federal proof of citizenship with me all the time, but it's not my license.

As a naturalized citizen, is there a way to check if our citizenship is associated with our driver license? I don’t think it is displayed on CA licenses but I think I put my license number on my passport application.

The HAVA checks (where election officials query the SSA database) do not return citizenship status. But, would not be surprised if the administration dips into SSA for data

DHS will likely make wild claims of noncitizen voting. Be highly skeptical of an administration who claims millions of dead people receiving social security benefits (but never produced a single person committing this crime) as making accurate claims about noncitizen voting

Texas found only 2,724 potential noncitizens through the SAVE check (the true number once election officials verify registrants' citizenship status will likely be much lower, if not zero). This severely undercuts Trump's claims that tens of millions of noncitizens vote

It used to be DHS only allowed states to look up individuals in the SAVE database. Now they allow states to run their entire voter file. Texas did this and found "2,724 potential noncitizens" registered to vote -- I suspect many of these are due to data errors www.sos.state.tx.us/about/newsre...

Arizona, for example, explicitly directs election officials who conduct voter registration drives at naturalization ceremonies (where they register new citizens literally walking out of the ceremony) to wait before conducting a SAVE check to verify a registrants' citizenship status

Another source of citizenship status is DHS's SAVE (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements) database. The SAVE database has inaccuracies and is also known by election officials to lag updating persons' naturalization status

When a noncitizen receives a drivers license they are issued a card and their citizenship status is noted in their record. When someone naturalizes, states' laws do not require them to update their drivers license citizenship status until they next renew their license, which may not be for years
