On 11 November 1987, Dublin's first, wholly commercial queer night club, Sides D.C., was destroyed by fire. Three units of Dublin’s fire brigade were called to the scene at 01:50am and quickly brought the blaze under control at the Dame Lane venue that had opened to great acclaim a year earlier.
