It would get so much worse. This is one election cycle. We will get a chance to get back in office. If we create a new party, we guarantee that we don't win the next elections. That's 8+ additional *years* of GoP majority.

Dems need to shift left over time, keeping the donors and name recognition.

If you divide the party you do more harm than good - GoP would win ballots because the best Dems would do is like 40%, third party would draw maybe 5-10% (if that) based on lack of recognition. Bernie wins on personal name recognition and past excellence, others don't have that.
