Almighty Gods of Wisdom & Reason — don’t leave us!
When publishers push AI “reading assistants” message is clear: don’t bother reading. On top of don't-bother-writing attitude I see in reviewed papers, my feeling is that we are losing the very essence of #science.

Not believing democracy can slip into autocracy is exactly what allows it to happen. Americans saw Trump’s admiration for Putin’s grip on power, but dismissed the possibility it could take root here. That disbelief is what leaves the country just a breath away from losing democratic freedoms.

Language in scientific writing is a mirror of academic culture. This editorial is a timely reminder that careful, precise, and balanced expression strengthens scholarship. Yet too many papers today are framed like product branding rather than contributions to knowledge.

Wonderful editorial from our colleagues about why self-promotional language should be avoided in scientific articles.
commspsychol.nature.com
Self-promotional language may attract readers but is discouraged in Communications Psychology. Because style matters in fostering credibility.

Phantom feelings in lost limbs present a puzzle for neuroscientists who were taught to believe that once a body part is amputated, another body part will creep into its spot on the brain’s map of the body.

A new imaging study undermines that theory. https://scim.ag/45SInZQ
After an amputation, the brain’s map of the body is more stable than previously thought
Imaging study could inform future prosthetics and treatments for phantom limb pain

And drug cartels, pharmaceutical and alcohol industry know it. People experience savage hopelessness and they want to forget the pain for few minutes. You can't blame them. Nobody knows what to do and there's less and less hope that people up the top really care. 2/2

Be it drugs or alcohol - literally every country in this world experiences this problem. Nobody seems to understand how vicious cycle of poverty and inequality pushes people into the arms of substance addiction.

Until 2014, I spent a few years researching what remained of Crimean Tatar cultural heritage. The history of deportations had been censored for long time, and meticulous Soviet erasure of Tatar culture after World War II is still barely recognized as a crime.

In the adopted text, Dutch lawmakers declared that the Soviet-led deportation of Crimean Tatars, which took place between May 18 and 21, 1944, constitutes genocide by contemporary legal and historical...

Olympus & Ascraues Mons

Credit: ESA/DLR/FUBerlin/AndreaLuck 🧪🔭
A high resolution photo of Mars from orbit captured by ESA's Mars Express. The image shows the reddish, dusty surface with soft brown and rusty hues, fading into a thin atmosphere. At the bottom left, two prominent volcanic formations, Olympus Mons and Ascraeus Mons, appear as large, broad features on the surface, with their edges softly blending into the landscape. On the bottom right, a large, circular bluish cloud hovers just above the surface, with soft, uneven edges. At the top center, a yellowish dust storm swirls across the terrain, resembling tightly packed cotton balls in a rough oval shape. The curvature of the planet highlights the thin atmosphere, gradually fading into the vast darkness of space.
