When it comes to their staff, the Island Getaway Resort has spared no expense in ensuring their guests are pampered by only the best of the best. When that inevitably didn’t financially pan out, SunWon settled for the next best thing: anyone with a heartbeat and a willingness to accept an employment position at a minimum wage entry level. Ok, well, some of our staff are ghosts, but you get what I mean.

A collection of the island’s scientists experimented with making a real life dragon… which ended up escaping. Oops. One of SungWon Bear’s more notable cleaning staff and recently hire. The face of an eldritch monster but the heart of a golden retriever, John is a friendly face (or faces) on an island that’s out to kill you. His job is to clean up the messes after the guests finishes their hunt. He gobbles up remains and keeps the rest tidy and pristine. Though he has the power to consume and sprout limbs and parts and extend himself however he pleases, John hates fighting and just wants to do his job. He has the ability to copy someone’s face after eating them, and is near impervious due to his regenerative abilities. He hates fire. Also SungWon never did a background check on John, so that’s a bit of an HR issue.

The Butler Bugs Age: 5 Pronouns: any/all Height: 5’ 5” The Butler Bugs - if, in fact, there are more than the one - are repurposed manufacturing robots eager to serve. Their antennae pick up commands from anyone who seem to need a butler anywhere on the island. Upon receiving what they interpret as a command, they will collapse into a ball and roll as fast as possible towards whatever it seems needs butlering. They are quite excited about being a butler, but do not understand all the ways humans are different than cars. They are just as likely to give you a good greasing as polish your silverware. Their fingers are manipulative into many tools, such as welding torches, whisks, hairbrushes, an… is that a gun?

Out in the middle of the ocean there’s a beautiful tropical paradise known as Sunbear Island. On it sits a magnificent hotel known as Island Getaway Resort, or the IGR. Founded by the old but thrifty Sungwon Bear, this resort boasts amenities such as beaches, pools, restaurants, hiking trails through sandy-floor jungles, rooms and villas of all kinds, and a professional golf course. It’s all serviced by the state of the art line of robotic bug butlers! The accommodations are not cheap, but they provide an unforgettable, one-of-a-kind experience. However, the business has been struggling. The upkeep for this level of luxury is costly, and after Sungwon made a series of bad investments, the business is failing. Fortunately for him, his head of security and professional ‘manhunter,’ Hazel van Guevara, along with Sungwon’s… Son(?) Nephew(??), Mister Bear, came up with a way out of this predicament: a battle royale to the death! Mister Bear would get revenue from streaming the event live, and Sungwon would get a tax write off for history when it’s all over. It’s the perfect plan! Now the island is set up for an every-person-for-themselves-free-for-all battle royale, with the Bears and staff watching over the event. Maybe you came to the island unaware of this event, or you wash das note from a shipwreck. It’s possible you were an unlucky member of the staff that didn’t get off the island in time. Perhaps you got lured in here by someone with the promise of money. Whatever the reason, there’s no escape now! Will you be the hunter, or the hunted??

Hazel Van Gevaar Age: 26 Pronouns: she/her Height: 6’6” Hazel is a hired mercenary working for Sungwon Bear’s island resort. She also came up with the idea of the Battle Royale, and will hunt contestants who fall out of line. The Van Geveers were the greatest family of “manhunters” to ever live. At the age of 3, Hazel hunted her first man, at the age of 13 she outhunted both of her parents, and at the age of 22, after 3 years of nonstop struggle, she killed the most dangerous human being on Earth: her grandma. Underestimate her at your own peril.

Island Getaway OCT Get ready for vacation you won’t soon forget! We promise double the fun every round. That’s because you only get twelve panels in your audition, but the number doubles every round! I.e. round one has a twenty five panel limit, round two has fifty panels, and so on. This is to create an OCT experience where participation isn’t such a massive commitment in early rounds. Plus, it’s a fun challenge to see how much story you can tell in a short amount of space! We hope to see lots of new creators dip their toes into the OCT community!
