Top tier bank holiday Sunday. Duvet day with a book that's only interrupted by runs to the kitchen for coffee, with a crackling fire on the TV. #booksky #spéirghorm #irishbluesky

Monaghan County Museum has the best and simplest summation of the Civil War and Partition of Ireland. Just cuts to the heart of the matter. Though what teabag do you reckon is Pro/Anti-Treaty? I reckon Barry's is Anti-Treaty. #irishhistory #speirgorm #spéirghorm #irishbluesky

I'm very late to the game, but I'm in love with reading this book, I never want it to end. The world building is top-notch, the different POVs are not too numerous and are distinct voices. It's a hefty book, 845 pages, but the writing has made me want it to be longer than that. #booksky #spéirghorm

It's sort of hilarious that The Last Dinner Party and The Beaches are my top two this year considering I only discovered the two bands in October this year.

Reading slump that has been ongoing for months is broken (Thanks Spirit Level, highly recommend reading btw). Started this last night and finding it very intriguing so far.

Bad Bridget is such a fascinating read about women who fell on the wrong side of the law after emigrating, looking at it through this lens gives such a unique perspective of society in the 19th century both at home and abroad and shows the issues that women faced in those days.

So much has been written about Jack the Ripper and the murders he carried out, but The Five by Hallie Rubenhold is one of the few books to actively delve into the lives of the victims and actively attempts to centre their humanity and bring it to our attention.

Easter Widows by Sinead McCoole delves into the lives of the female partners of the signatories of the Proclamation. So much has been written of the men that signed their names, but until this book very little has been written of the women who supported them, and had to carry on after their deaths.

Lonely Castle in the Mirror by Mizuki Tsujimura is another wonderful magical realism book. Five children who are outsiders at school are pulled into a castle through mirrors in their room and are given a task by a mysterious child in a wolf mask. It's simultaneously heartbreaking and hopeful.

This is in no particular order BTW. The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafòn is essentially a mystery set in Barcelona. It's a delightfully Gothic example of magical realism.

Since there's people following me on this, it is time for me to push my favourite books on you.
First up is A Ghost in the Throat by Doireann Ní Ghríofa, it's an autobiography of the author woven with a biography of Eibhlín Dubh Ní Chonaill. Doireann's prose is utterly compelling and beautiful.

I thought for a moment that Ticketmaster were giving us all the collaboration that nobody asked for but everyone needed, and now I'm immensely disappointed that this isn't the case.
