For years I felt pressured into having to keep up with whatevers trending the most. Little secret for you: Those new apps dont perform any better/worse than the old ones. It may have some new settings/filters and thats about it. Find whatever works for you!

USE WHATEVER WORKS FOR YOU. Experiment. For example- I hated SAI and CSP. I also downloaded this android version of Procreate (literally a copycat) and immediately decided I hated its set up. Am I running outdated programs from 25+ yrs ago? Yes. Do I care its old? Nope! ->>>

For backgrounds or diff textures, I'll use PSP 8, PS Elements, I have a plugin for PS7 that does cool 3D textures (wont work on CS2), and sometimes for nostalgia fun I'll use ancient OC. I think oekaki boards have long died off now, sadly, so I have to find similar in PS brushes->>>

Every so often I pick up new programs or learn new things, but I primarily stick to PS CS2 for my main illustration work. For photo editing, I use Snapseed and Google Photos built in editing stuff like magic eraser. I used to do it all manually in PS but tech has improved since then! -->>>

which makes it more user friendly (or as I call it, idiot friendly because I feel like a complete idiot trying to learn 3D programs). I need more time to take some "classes"/webinars to learn how to use Blender etc in a way that works for me. The free sculpt from a blob does not. (More -->>)

For 3D programs:
I have messed with Blender, Maya, and Nomad Sculpt. Havent touched Zbrush yet.
.
Maya was too complicated/confusing. Blender isnt exactly easy either but once you learn the different tools etc its the easiest of the 3 big brands.
Nomad Sculpt is less complex ->>

want to read my ABR files even though its supposed to... Im pretty much only able to use it for basic lineart and flat colors or cell shading at best. A LOT of things I have to do the long, dragged out, manual way because Krita doesnt have that tool or setting (like dodge/burn) --->>>

which then means the system command thingy wont take it or I have the potential to brick my Pixelbook (did so only once so far). I JUST bought parts for a new PC build so I can go back to using PS and other programs lol. Krita hates me as much as I hate it (freezes, crashes, doesnt ->)

I failed to get old PS to run properly thru Windows emulation for Linux. There was one time where I got it to function correctly then somehow screwed that up. I'm not good with trying to code/script stuff in linux and rely on tutorials. Unfortunately some of those scripts are inaccurate --->

➡ Clip Studio Paint
➡ Infinite Painter
➡ Krita
And there's been a few random apps here and there that I tried on my Pixelbook before settling on what worked best.
WHAT I USE NOW: Infinite Painter for sketches and Ive been stuck with crappy Krita because (contine thread)
