I agree that Carol's past isn't essential to the plot. But it helps give us another reason why she's going to fight *so hard* to resist when other un-Joined people have given up or don't see the point.

So the *way* the DNC has chosen to oust him seems like bullshit, but I can't blame them for *wanting* to oust him. After being elected vice-chair, he announced his intent to use his PAC to primary insufficiently progressive Dems in safe seats.

I almost always sit with my back to the door in restaurants. My wife's ex *was* shot and killed in a public place, so she (and the kids) like to face the door. And that's fine with me, because "acting like a man" should mean making your family comfortable, rather than pretending to be John McClane.

I met the parents of one of the Sandy Hook victims a few years after it happened. Only for about ten minutes, but they are seared into my brain like few other experiences I have had.

I once met two of the Sandy Hook parents.
Their six-year-old little girl was murdered, and then Alex Jones derided them as "crisis actors", deliberately subjecting them to harassment and stalking by his legion of howling morons.
