Yeah, but the xG was amazing!

But you are right in that it’s not a great look for MLS when someone being touted as one of its greatest coaches puts together the worst 8-game run in Celtic’s history at a time when they have 5-20x larger budget than all but one domestic opponent because of a calamitous series of decisions.

Well.. Celtic, not me. And it’s not so much been purchased as been cemented by bigger clubs capturing the bulk of broadcast revenue over the past 35 years. All of which should make it far easier for any mediocre manager to win at Celtic. (See Wim Jansen, John Barnes, Neil Lennon, Ronny Deila).

In the last decade, Celtic have won 9 league titles plus 14 domestic cups. Their budget is 5-20 times larger than all but one of their domestic rivals. They didn’t need to build a winning system. They had one… until 33 days ago.

French football man,
This is your last game,
We’re not some MLS franchise…

MLS operates in a bubble. It’s possible for someone to step out of it and find success, but it’s a long shot given the chasm in intensity between “sports-entertainment” and what the rest of the world plays.

Why do so many people not realize that the job of a manager is quite simply to get the best results based on the resources at their disposal?

No need to confiscate them. People simply need to stop playing them.

Omar El Akkad’s book is essential reading in these times. 👍

Not surprised.

You say in jest… but I’ll never forget one former MLS writer Tweeting that he thought he had, in some way, helped David Beckham to win MLS Cup with the LA Galaxy. 🙈

It’s a sports-entertainment vehicle operating entirely outside the global football ecosystem. Season doesn’t matter until playoffs. Just a bunch of inter-departmental exhibition games. Not to say someone can’t leave it and be successful elsewhere, but it’s a long shot given the step-up in intensity.

BBC Scotland’s Off The Ball show has a weekly segment where they provide an answer and listeners submit the question. Recent answer was 62,046. One suggested question was “How many Tweets will I have to delete to be able to watch Scotland play in the World Cup?”

Big Haitian community in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn… that will undoubtedly have been priced out of tickets like everyone else.

Could be a reenactment of Scotland’s famous “One Team In Tallinn” win over Estonia given the current travel ban.
