Io blinked. How strange; hallways didn't usually have rows of teeth instead of wallpaper or spongey wet red carpet which squelched when she took a step. Nor did it have background music of raspy breathing or erratic heartbeats filtering in from..somewhere.

Delayed by some twisted mishap, perhaps forgotten under a desk or drawer somewhere, it stomped the breath from her lungs and tore the wings from her back anew.
