Rereading some passages this morning in preparation for our School’s book club meeting today, which is reading @drkevinrmcclure.com’s _The Caring University_. I know I’m late to the party on this but wow what a read it’s been so far!

First day of school means a bunch of cross-institution emails flying and I have a small fascination with how campus IT departments deal with phishing. Mine (top image) is simple but we get fake emails from the university to “test” us. Meanwhile just saw the one at the bottom and it feels like ALOT 😳

It’s federal policy systems day in my education policy class! Felt like an apt opening image.

It is the fifth day of our PhD summer intensive but my first day of class! Fingers crossed for no breaking higher education policy-related news this week 🤞🏼

Feels like the next phase of the anti-equity project: pointing out institutions who’ve not curtailed the work “enough” and should be forced to go further. Much of this shouldn’t hold up in courts, but the (further) chilling effect this will have is the bigger point.

I am happy to share some (unfortunately) timely work in the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education about how transgender students practice resilience to get through college. psycnet.apa.org/doi/10.1037/...

Week 2 of Higher Education Finance and 30 minutes before class, I drafted some new (imperfect) slides of translating current events to our course content.

It’s gonna be…something…this semester but really glad to be thinking alongside incredibly thoughtful, sharp students through all of this.

I constantly come back to this interview with Dean Spade from 2017, especially this part.

And if you want to see it in action!

(I’m writing as I normally would—not backward—but the screen inverts it so the viewer can see it as if it’s facing them!)

Teaching higher ed finance again this semester and got to record a lecture using a lightboard - and it came out well!

If you attended #ASHE24/#ASHE2024 this year, I strongly encourage you to fill out your conference evaluation! This will really help the ASHE staff and conference leadership team (including me!) make some decisions about what will happen next year!

Small thing that’s was bright spot today: dropping off gifts at the Pride Center for my Pride Pals. Love that our Center does this for students who may have a lot of mixed emotions at this time of year.

I am excited to share my latest article from RHE: "Transgender Men and Non-Binary Students Managing Their Identities to Pay for College." I analyzed four years' worth of data from my longtudinal study of transgender college students for this paper. lnkd.in/gjx6ZpzJ

It’s always a gift to write and dream with Jasmine. Check out our latest publication in the Journal of College Student Development with suggestions to center our collective humanity in this wave of anti-DEI attacks on higher education. muse.jhu.edu/pub/1/articl...
