I do stuff on the internet
Back in the day filmmakers would lit the set with blue light and you'd know it's a night scene. Now they use a light that happen to be on on another set and if you're not watching the movie/show in a sensory isolation chamber you can't see shit.

Torn about Silo season 2. I don't mind some changes and additions - Walk, Sims, Kyle's role, but some are so unnecessary and introduce complications down the line. Some are also just bad storytelling (Audrey, the scene from our times from the Shift and expo dump). Idk. Books did it well already.

The UK and now EU pushing plans to suppress privacy is terrible. The excuse is always to protecting the children or you from the big bad. If you'd think it'd be insane for the government to listen to your private face to face conversations, the internet isn't any different, just easier to implement

The quintessence of AI generated goods and services. Good on you for using your own product, I guess, but you are aware that scissors don't work this way? Doesn't scream confidence in the quality of your possibly vibe-coded product with vibe-generated marketing that no human checked before posting.

Seems that the UK government went with "prior art" defense in case of future attempt of getting a patent for "the dumbest law". The extension of already intrusive Online "Safety" Act to cover vague phases, giving the government power to censor media and even Wikipedia is mind-blowing horrible.

@ec.europa.eu it's baffling that payment processors aren't covered properly in Digital Markets Act. As a result an Australian and US groups lobby Visa, Mastercard and PayPal to pressure platforms like Steam, itch.io (and others in the past) to censor their content.

Collective Shout is still going. After finishing (for now, I'm sure) with Steam, they went after itch.io - shadowbanning games and books with nsfw, adult, and similar tags from search, banning creators, making purchases unavailable to users.
Maybe payment processors should be regulated?

#diy question - you're making things from wood/multiple elements - glue or screws? I'll always heavily gravitate towards screws cause of repariability/serviceablity, but I feel that in general people go for glue.

Turns out Collective Shout is behind recent mass delisting of Steam games.
If you were uncomfortable with nude games - I understand, but the same group wanted to remove Detroit: Become Human for "child abuse" and "violence against women". Imagine that story without Kara and Alice storyline.

Another #gamedev design topic. If you're showing this screen, you're 90% there but missing the most crucial information - what progress. I don't know when you saved the game - you know that, so tell me. Use relative time - like "5 minutes ago", not 21:33 cause I don't see the clock on the pc.

Come on government, give him a few billion, how else can he survive? He's already working multiple jobs just to make ends meet!

Apple is going wild with the 26 update. I get the aesthetic, but really?
1. You put thought and effort into your icon and identity? Nah, we'll gonna recolor it to gray for some reason
2. We'll also add some weird edge detection and outline effect so it looks like your icon is from burry iPhone 3G

#ProtectEU is anything but.
Hindering encryption so that law enforcement can decrypt it won't work. It's like asking people not to lock their houses (or have a master key to all locks), in case the police wants to come in. That already is proposterous. Criminals will have and use that key as well

Stop Killing Games is a good initiative, but I doubt it'll succeed. You're asking a bunch of mental boomers to decide and regulate a tricky technical problem around an activity that most of them don't understand and sees as stupid kids stuff.

An interesting legal problem arises in Poland. The president wrote a book and from few quotes it looks more like a funfic (of himself).
Now - we also have a law (art 135 §2 of the penal code) that roughly says "who insults the president is subject for improvement for up to 3 years".

There's really no good reason for your website to have a two stage login, asking for the email/username first and then the password. And it's annoying to the users. Stop.

I finished streaming Killer Frequency and liked it. I was looking for something similar. Firewatch was high on the list and I looked at "More like this" and I'm not sure Steam is utilizing their game database the best way possible.
Are 20-40+ RPGs really similar to a 4h story game #Steam?

"Love" to read tech people arguing their preferences as objective truths. The fact you can do it your way doesn't make it "the way". Especially when your argument doesn't hold when used in a different example.

I was reminiscing about <table>s, invisible gifs and mysql_connects with a LLM. And on one hand - fuck you, you weren't there, with us in the trenches of early net. On the other hand - my anti-social ass loved talking and remembering building 700 CMSes one after another. So much simpler back then

Dear #apple. I know if I want to install the update and when. Showing the damn install popup even with Remind later every 3 times I use my phone is fucking annoying. Steve would throw the phone in the face of a person who came up with it. And rightfully so.

Dear #gamedevs - you know how (some of) you put that "Adjust brightness" screen at the start of the game?
Do that but for sound, before you play any, and use that volume for your intros as well.
- Sincerely, everyone with ears 💜

Just realized that Mr Bean in Poland has a first name (Jaś, which is like a cute version of Jan, which is related to the name John). He doesn't have one in the series but for some reason they gave him one in the translation. Ok, back to sleep now #wokeupthinking
