I don't trust that anyone has my back or interests more then me.

I tend to be more of a collectivist in the sense that all membership is voluntary and equal (bakunin, Proudhon etc.)
But the union system in the US is damn near mandatory if it gets a hold of your industry...

I can't have someone tell me not to work...and then make compromises and concessions at the table.

To be clear, I'm not anti union, I'm skeptical that unions are needed in software...where every company in the world needs us to succeed.

I'm not a big believer in the idea that empathy and/or sympathy can lead to effective advocacy. At least in cases of work issues.

The things I would want from a union is to stop crunch time.
And if the leader hasn't felt crunch (sleeping under desk etc).. then I can't believe they'd know how to fight against it.
