My second frog, the croaking peeper, turned out really nice.

I thought this glaze combo would run and speckle more like it is on the test tile, but I ended up with very clean lines for my cowgirl cat. The hat turned out alright, but I think in the future I’ll paint the glazes onto the cat in the patterns I want.

This nose was originally meant to adorn the box, but it dried out too fast so I ended up keeping it as a stand alone piece. There’s a nail hole in the back so I can mount it on a wall.

My box proportions are super tight and I’m really happy with the composition. The glaze ran, which I knew it would, but that caused a chip on one bottom edge. The lid is perfect.

I’ve been working on this one for a little over a month now: before and after on an old jewelry stand. After getting the paint off of the hardware, the metal turned out to be really nasty and I couldn’t for the life of me clean, buff and shine them back so I ended up gilding all except the one.

She’s out of the kiln! Now the question: glaze or not? Glaze would strengthen the weak tongue but also not glazing would allow moss to grow on it. I could paint it with outdoor paint or underglaze it only and avoid glossing, the moss idea is really cool.

2 1/2 more hours of work on this thing. Considering adding toenails and other details, but I might call it soon and get it ready for firing.

I’ve been working on my first functional gargoyle. This is a prototype for a downspout. Not done with detailing, but it looks good so far. Going to move the cheeks up to match the nose height and add ears and some squat legs on Thursday. It’ll be some kind of panther demon I think.

Why do people think “Baby shoes; never worn.” is so sad? What if they were just ugly?

My Lover’s Scent

The aged leafs of paper in an old book,
how the spine cracks and sends flurries of faeries dancing into the light.
Warm sugar, spinning yarns of caramel.
Sun-warmed carpet.
Sweet grass and wheat baking in the summer heat.
The bole of a tree standing in the orange wash of sunset.

12- WOODS
April 23, 2025 at 3:48 PM
I haven’t been very actively creating lately, I’m pretty stressed out and dealing with a lot of life stuff, but here is the progress on my niece’s stamp! I just need to go to the woodshop and shape the mounting block and give it a handle.

I helped build a government AI system. DOGE fired me, rolled the AI out to the whole agency, and implied the AI can do my job and the jobs of the others they've fired.

It can't. But, what DOGE accidentally revealed about themselves in the process is fascinating. 🧵

We Fucking Told You So

#1,117 in a depressingly ongoing series.
@josholson.bsky.social @daveanthony.bsky.social i've been binging your stunning work of anthropology, The West Wing Thing, and i've reached s3e8 where Josh predicts our exact current state of affairs based on some earlier comment from Dave, maybe your best predictive work yet? [sadly.]
