My in-laws share a large home with SIL and her family. My mom has a private bed and bath at our house; she provided the same for Grandma. Multi-generational living without having to build whole separate buildings.

My kids walk now, but I used to drive one of them. There was a bus, whose nearest pickup point was 15 minutes from our house, in the opposite direction of the school. The pickup time was more than an hour before school started. School was on my way to work; drop off was easy and kid could sleep in.

Undoubtedly kitchen ventilation is much better now.

I love Indian food and would love a neighbor who cooked Indian food. However I once saw a home which had been empty and unsold for months, because the sellers didn't want to spring for replacing carpet/drywall that had captured the smell of every curry since 1960. It was not pleasant in there.

My kid thinks they want to be a physicist but would make a much better lawyer, so I'm trying to broaden their mind about what you can do with a physics degree.

Sure? FWIW a friend says the tacos closest to the ones her Mexican grandma made are found at Jack in the Box.

Everyone I know who moved to Florida specifically moved there *because* it has crazy right wing governance.

I loved living in a dingbat! Can they just retrofit the covered parking to be garages? (Mine had garages in the front and covered parking spots in the back off the alley, which would make a pretty miserable ADU.)

I have a stove with both gas and induction burners. Gas provides continuous control and visual feedback. Induction provides neither and the only thing it does well is boil water rapidly.

In our area most of those kids are 12-15. At least with driving there is some age limit and instruction and licensing. But really teen boys should not be allowed near anything with a motor and wheels.

The struggle is real. We have multiple sports and band. Crockpot and freezer meals (and a large stash of ramen noodles) save us.

Interesting. I'm a Brooklinen girl but I should try the Target ones!

As a preschooler, my brother told a knock-knock joke to which the punchline was "G.I. Joe pancakes." 40 years later we haven't forgotten. We'll be telling that joke at his funeral.

Once wrote paper on *minority* carriers in devices with Schottky *barriers* under *bias*. There might have been a mathematical *inequality* in there too.

Jacques Pepin says to use the supermarket as your prep cook. Use the box!

Yep. Also 16 years ago when my oldest was a baby, Skype conversations were pretty much entirely "you're frozen again...can you hear me now? ...we'll call you back" again and again.

One time I crossed the street in front of a Lamborghini SUV and wondered to my friend, "if you could afford a Lamborghini would you really get that one?" and the guy followed me and floored it in anger, shaking his fist, as he drove past.

I am right handed so I hold the brush in my right hand and use my left hand to turn the left (hot) tap on. But it only needs to be on long enough to wet the brush, so in that one second (or even the five seconds needed to fill a cup to rinse with) it does not actually get very hot.

It's 2024, you have to download the Ghostbusters app and create a login and strong password.

Heard a talk once where they monitored the price of a flight between two cities on two airlines for months. Some days one was cheaper, some days the other was cheaper, there were some random fluctuations...punchline was, they were the exact same flight, a codeshare.

It is difficult to determine value for airline pricing because it has high variation, some of which appears random. You can assign some value to features (free checked bags, extra leg room) but that base price still varies based on the direction of the wind sometimes.

I stayed in one of these recently. It did not look like anyone had set foot in the courtyard in months (overgrown lawn, some junky furniture). The flat was nice though.

This sounds so gross to me; I'd rather be stuck with a needle! But whatever gets people vaccinated.
