The former USSR had ca. 24 mio in war casualties. Over 1 mio. in the battle of Stalingrad alone which was one of the major turning points in WW II.
Poland lost 3 Mio people to the Holocaust and another 3 Mio to war casualties.

But of course Trump has to make it into some sort of pissing contest..

The sheer arrogance &lack of historical knowledge. The US was still at war with Japan until 2 September 1945. May the 8th is Europe-specific. It celebrates the surrender of Nazi Germany as a direct result of a joint offensive by the allies, but mostly the Russians capturing Berlin on the May 2nd 1/2
Trump posted on Truthsocial on the 2nd of May: "Many of our allies and friends are celebrating May 8th as Victory Day, but we did more than any other Country, by far, in producing a victorious result on World War II. I am hereby renaming May 8th as Victory Day for World War II and November 11th as Victory Day for World War I.
