I'm in line with this way of thinking. there are absolutely tons of cool people making games on their own even before Cave Story, but the term indie games fits that era so well and I think it was one of the biggest and most influential releases from that era

also the people that follow for clout usually have the exact same number of followers and folllowing. they follow a bunch of people and then unfollow if they don't get a follow back. so its just some guy with zero likes on his posts but he has 20k followers and following

as a monhun lance main I approve. also the game saving doesn't save the upgrade that makes the water not hurt. and if you press the charge button to stop charging midair it makes you float and move forever

Four whole years earlier than braid and cave story is hugely influential

Braid came out 4 years after Cave Story which in my memory was the first big deal indie game so this is some wild revisionism
