As someone with a Polish last name, people butcher my name all the time. It's like they don't even want to take even a few minutes of their time to just learn and pronounce it properly!

I always say that if you can learn to say author names like Dostoyevsky, you can learn to say any other name 🙃

Or correction, our system is NOT the best. However, it offers more to the people than yours. I'd rather work on solving the issue of making our system better, and dismantling systems that are unjust HERE than become American.

And if any Americans feel offended by my remark...

It's nothing against you, but I dont want to live in your system. Maybe our system isn't the best either, but there is more of a social safety net here. My B.A. only cost me 15k, and many other things I would never get in the States.

I see that it's available on Audible!

Also, no judgement on my end. Audiobooks count as reading to me:)

I just happened to get this book for 2.99 at my local thrift store😁☝🏼

This is why capitalism favours consumerism.

If we are fooled into desiring things, we are distracted from demanding our most basic needs and from neo-liberal policies.

Capitalism is an inherently predatory system and is bound to backfire. We can no longer remain ignorant to the erosion of needs.

A quote from Bernays is the following:

"We must shift America from a needs- to a desires- culture. People must be trained to desire, to want new things, even before the old have been entirely consumed. [...] Man's desires must overshadows his needs."

He used to work for the Committee on Public Information during WW1. He was supposed to influence people's opinions by having them be in favour of the war.

HOWEVER, he realized these techniques could be used when things were peaceful, encouraging consumerism to safely satisfy the Id (Freud).
