If you run it publicly you can get a lot of advantages depending on the situation. Lower prices, better working conditions, normal grocery stores have razor thin margins which can lead to unstable business practices.

I think that, ultimately, the inherent problem with this and other technologies is that because they are being developed and utilized in a capitalist system, the primary motivator for their development is not to improve quality of life or make jobs easier, but to save money.
