Sometimes this works when one can go manufacturer-direct, but often times these "other places" are simply Amazon drop-shippers. I bought a replacement part for my car from a locally-owned and operated auto parts retailer and it still had the Amazon shipping label attached.

All I said was "they're often the only option in my rural area." It was you who assumed there were other options without knowing any specifics about what they are the only options for, and assumed there are other options available. I'm not the one virtue-signaling here.

No kidding. I HATE Amazon but the effect they have had on brick and mortar means they're often the only option in my rural area. Frustrating.

I was reading on Reddit about how the EU requires:

* The lowest price during the last 30 days needs to be shown

* The discount percentage cannot relate to a price that wasn't offered during the last 30 days

I wonder what it would be like living in a society that values consumer protections.
