All packed and ready to board my flight to Japan for the upcoming Japanese Studies conference at Tohoku University organized by @eajs.eu

Sleep was in short supply last night, but with 13 hours on a plane ahead of me, I’m grateful for the chance to rest, read, and think uninterrupted.

As #BACS2025 concludes, we are pleased to see that nearly all of our titles have been reserved! The conference has been an excellent occasion to engage with stimulating keynotes, reconnect with colleagues, and meet emerging scholars. Sincere thanks to Dr Lin Feng for the generous hospitality!

Very much enjoyed reading this insightful introduction to modern Chinese history by Prof. Rana Mitter.

As a publisher, I’ll admit I envy the idea behind @oxunipress.bsky.social’s Very Short Introductions series. It’s deceptively simple but so well executed! Fully recommend this title.

As a Romanian living abroad, I’m often asked about the connection between Romanians and the Roma people—a complex history I’ve struggled to explain. @madelinepotter.bsky.social's book offers a clear, thoughtful look at Romani culture and history. It’s eye-opening and deeply humanizing. Recommend!

If you catch me watching documentaries about ramen at work, don’t worry—it’s strictly academic. Totally legitimate. Absolutely serious.
