It is a turn-based game during combat, but not the whole game. I love that type of combat, but I guess not everyone does. If you liked Time Stranger despite the turn system, then I'd say give it a go.

Expedition 33, Hades (1 and 2), and Baldur's Gate 3 are all high recommendations if you haven't played before!

He and Penelo definitely take a backseat after Bhujerba, but I don't mind as I find Balthier, Fran and Ashe more interesting. His influence is there in a more subtle way though. I think it is ultimately he who sways Ashe off of the path of revenge.

I liked Vaan, although he very much was there to represent the common folk in the wider journey of Ashe and Co.
Ramza is definitely a top tier character though! All the Ivalice games were excellent for writing and script
