On this day in 1960, the first episode of Coronation Street was broadcast live from the Granada Studios at 7.00 pm.

What an enjoyable thread this has been to follow

Well done @lewispringle.bsky.social for making the effort to pull it together

In 3 weeks time, it's Coronation Street's 65th anniversary, and to mark their Sapphire Jubilee, I wanted to do a countdown of my 65 favourite characters.

It was a joy to put this together! 🧱🍺🐈

Why is #Corrie suddenly going so hard for the IRA?

Yesterday’s film: The Wizard of Oz (1939)

Possibly the most visually stunning movie of all time?

Once again the London Lions are being allowed to move fixtures to a high school gym, without any proper seating

Utter shambles that there is a wall of silence when it comes to ticketing information - trying to hide the fact?

If they can’t put a game on, postpone or reverse it!

I don’t actually watch #Strictly but tuned in for musicals week

Explain to me how Amber Davies is in the bottom two after delivering a flawless routine last night? 😂

Even I could see it at the time… and then she received a perfect 40 from the judges

What a weird programme #SCD

Two “special” episodes of #Corrie coming up in the next two weeks

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; Tina O’Brien is such an accomplished comedy actress and I wish we would get more scenes of Sarah being funny and chaotic, rather than just sexy or crying

I think this might be one of my all-time favourite #Corrie comedy scenes 🤣

I actually think she’s quite a good character

Shame she’s a bit of a nonce though

Big moment for me this Christmas

I’m ditching @radiotimes.bsky.social for @tvchoice.bsky.social after almost three decades

This time has come, I’m afraid

I am here once again imploring you all the sign up to @last.fm

Spotify Wrapped is a load of bollocks, a cheap AI-generated marketing trick

By contrast, Last.FM provides a proper, regular dataset of your listening habits

“It’s been a while since you’ve presented here with a cut then”

Bit on the nose, wasn’t it? Thought we were finally going to find out what product Todd used to get rid of his ‘permanent’ scar

Maybe Ryan Connor could tell me instead…

Rewatched this 40 Years on Coronation Street documentary tonight - it was shown 25 years ago today (gulp).

In retrospect, and when you see the show in its current state, the talking heads commentary is like watching a different programme.

Could this be the first recorded incident of “London?!” @corriepodcast.com

My dream is for all #Corrie scripts to be made digitally available so that this sort of breakthrough moment can be cross-referenced and researched

The #Corrie Christmas Day episode is going to be given up to Swarla reunification, isn’t it?

What a flamin’ waste

Today’s film: Mean Girls (2024)

I thought this movie musical remake was harshly judged at the time and, on second viewing, I stand by that

There’s a lot to love, lots of humour and nuance to build on the original classic

However, admittedly the Broadway score arrangements are much more enjoyable

Might not fast-forward Swarla scenes on #Corrie tonight to fully understand what utter shiteness this is 🤣

Why are @conversationstreet.bsky.social not acknowledging that #Corrie has dabbled in musical theatre storytelling in the past? 👀

Bring back this sort of thing (but please not in a proper ep!)

Is it possible the reason everyone is saying James Cartwright is doing such a good job portraying Theo because the actor is an aggressive, violent thug himself?

Amazed the dynamic duo of McLeod and Brooks have given him a storyline in which he gets to act violent

The firm grip that @corriepodcast.com has on the British cultural zeitgeist knows no bounds

I was at ‘A Wild Evening’, a wonderful event with four female wildlife filmmakers - including Michael Strachan

When she opened saying “it’s great to be in London”, one wag (not me) quipped back “London?!”
