Agree. I'd add that discussions on disinformation and information warfare sometimes miss the essential law-and-order element. Many times, these campaigns are cases of simple criminal conspiracy.

Behind the map

Over at former Twitter, a disinfo operation called Africa Stream posted the alleged location of foreign military bases in Africa.

Of course, the map is wrong, as it overestimates US bases and does not include Russian bases. People noticed this immediately.

IN SUM: the Africa Stream operation presents Chad as hosting a UAE base because that aligns with the narrative that the Sudan is fighting against foreign forces and not a civil war.

Meanwhile, Russian bases are found in CAR, Mali, Niger… and (potentially) Chad.
