So weird seeing the captain talk in my language. Would make for a banger unexpected line in a video - like, just for a brief moment he looks at the camera and says something to the viewer in their language.

There are at least 2 mayor factors: they often have less trains, and their R/R crossings are often not equipped with signals for trains, allowing the gates to be closed at the last minute.

I don't know, but my scanner at home quickly alternates between red, green and blue light - that could be a clue. It's so fast you can't see it, unless you move your eyes.

Sanpietrini get a bad reputation because of the effects of poor maintenance and heavy vehicles. This one in Bologna could possibly end up not too bad for the cyclists after all... I hope.

From this picture, tracks 1 and 2 seem to be the main ones - ie the most straight ones, dedicated to non stopping trains
Could it be that it works like in Poland, where down main is 1, up main is 2, other down tracks are odd numbers and up tracks are even? But with letters for non-main line tracks
