I wasn’t implying that they would take direction—but if she was interested in certain ideas, would the art director/photographer not be willing to explore them with her, within the boundaries of our comfort? (I’m 100% not criticizing her or nymag here!)

I see that photo spread and interview as an attempt to try to control her own narrative as an artist and an individual in her own right. I worry for her (I also moved from the boroughs to the UES and found it…weird), and I wish her the very best.

Having looked it up now, in gin you have to have all your melds in your hand, and in gin rummy you can play off other people’s melds. The rules variations are so infinite that I’ve always negotiated terms with new people before starting a game.
