Yep, it's the same old "bash a beneficiary" or "lazy youf" rhetoric to gain a couple of votes.

Lazy Luxon chasing 4000 kids to save approx $1.3M year but won't chase Destiny church charitable trust or Gloriavale, with charities estimated to be avoiding $2.0B year in tax avoidance.

How Peters and Seymour react when they incite political violence, btw. And there are numerous examples of them doing this.

The fact that this dichotomy exists, and that media and some politicians are buying into it, is a signal of increasing fascism, for whatever that’s worth.
Text from a 2023 Stuff article (link below)

Wright again attempted to push Peters on the issue, saying it was "bubbling over".

Peters interrupted: "No, you'll be better informed when this is over and so will the media, but you're not going to win this campaign."

On Friday, Māori leaders called for an end to dog-whistling and racial division in an open letter - which was dismissed by ACT leader David Seymour as "purely political".

Mine finishes his Masters at Otago uni in December and headed for Oz in January 12th-ticket paid for and job hunting began in July in WA, NT and NSW. The brain drain from universities and polytechs, of trades and nurses, through the direct action of this Govt will take years to recover... If ever.

If you'd asked me which celebrity would posthumously unveil a list of people she wanted fired into the sun, I would not have guessed Jane Goodall

Dr. Jane Goodall filmed an interview with Netflix in March 2025 that she understood would only be released after her death.

My cartoon in today's www.thepost.co.nz/nz-news/3608...

Luxon giving his 'best' advice to unemployed youth...

#NzPol #Caricature #Cartoon #PoliticalCartoon #EditorialCartoon #Luxon
Cartoon. Title: Youth 'Pep' talk...

A tiny Luxon is in the hall talking to young people. He's standing on a stool with his hand casually in his pocket lecturing a room of youth.

He's saying, "The world doesn't owe you a living! BUT... if you grow up to be a landlord..."

In the audience over 20 young people with varying expressions react to his speech. One in particular is looking at us with a distinct angry face.

Lazy Luxon short on fact checking, again, before he makes major policy changes. The lack of "real life" intel is staggering inside this coalition govt.

Āe, when I was at high school you could leave at 15 yrs and there were jobs everywhere. I went into public service and wage freezes but within 2 years we went through the share market crash and then the 90s and Ruthanasia. Young people have had a shitty time under every Nat Govt 😕

There's so many businesses closing down or restructuring at the moment it must be scary being a kid starting out at 16 looking for a job. I've got one coming out of uni with a Masters in Geology and everyone wants someone with experience. He will go to Oz. What a bloody nightmare for our kids.

I don't think it's young people we need to be worried about "wasting" tax payer $$$. Perhaps we need to cast our beady accusatory eyes across to the tax avoidets who aren't you and I.

They are more likely to be the funders and lobbyists of the current coalition Govt.

Trusts and top tax rate:IRD identified 800 people who may have incorrectly used trusts & companies to avoid the top 39% tax rate. In 2023, govt closed a loophole where income was being retained in trusts to avoid top tax rate.

And tricky Nicky:Charitable sector: In December 2024, reports surfaced that about $2 billion in the charitable sector was untaxed. The Finance Minister at the time, Nicola Willis, promised to close loopholes relating to charities.

April 2023,NZCTU stated that the govt is potentially "missing out on billions of dollars in taxation" due to tax avoidance by the wealthy. 2024 NZ Herald article estimated tax avoidance costs the economy $7–$8 billion annually, with IRD recovering about $1 billion of that through investigations

Global tax abuses: A 2020 report by the Tax Justice Network estimated that New Zealand loses US$401 million (approximately NZ$577 million) per year through global tax abuses, such as profit-shifting by multinational corporations.
jabberwokiwi.bsky.social
Compliance activity: A recent enforcement crackdown by the IRD is showing how significant these tax shortfalls can be. In the second half of 2024 alone, 3,600 audits uncovered $600 million in undeclared tax, with half of that coming from fewer than 10 audits of large businesses.

Yep it was awful watching excellent submitters being thwarted by the 5mins talk time. Terrible but deliberately thwarting a democratic process.
