Then, I think of the data drives, backup services in the cloud. Some products/services have gone so far as to make local storage or processing difficult. Think of Microsoft’s push for One Drive.

My apologies for a brain core dump here… but one current gTLD that has been trouble prone is .zip because it looks like a file extension. (.com had such issues but .com is not common for executable file extensions.)

Thanks for sharing. One of things I watch for in the generic TLDs is the gTLD itself opening doors for deception. Among those are military themed gTLDs like .army, .airforce, .navy, etc. Ok for military fans et al but not real official mil.

Fascinating look at medical technology and diplomacy.

The section about Russia & China influences in Africa are particularly notable. Things like Chinese negotiators learning and using a local African language rather than using French.

FWIW, here’s a presentation I did on #Punycode, Internationalised Domain Names, and such. From 2010s, but a lot still applies today. #IDN

NB: IDNs are not evil, but can be used to deceive people. E.g., Homoglyph exploits.

In a way, the “they are eating the dogs… cats… pets” anti-immigrant theme could be an example of participatory disinformation at work. Apparently, started with a dodgy social media post. Others added to it, embellished, etc.
