Another paper says this (reference [4] there is the paper above), so it looks like it is called W because the creators of Maple thought it was called omega and there's no omega on the keyboard. The idea it was called omega I can't source.

The video comparison to other drivers is stark but I guess the problem is that a 20kph lift has been considered enough in previous double yellow situations, e.g. Qatar last year, so how much should he have slowed exactly? The "greatly reduced speed" from article 44.1 seems more clearly breached.

Ah, gotcha. I think your reference has slightly misunderstood, or you've slightly misunderstood it, if you look at the code from that paper you can see that what it's storing into the accumulator isn't the return address but the command 'A m F'. A is 11100 in the character table of the EDSAC2 so...

The major justification given in parliament - hansard.parliament.uk/commons/2025... - was that during the Thale protest they "caused panic among staff, who feared for their safety as pyrotechnics and smoke bombs were thrown into the area to which they were evacuating".
