Based off your cowriter's video on the subject (along with other comments mentioning the upcoming anniversary), my guess is to try and give some semi-official place to find their lore from that era, since so much of it is just gone now

Sadly it's done on purpose, even if they don't actively realize it. They say "you can't erase history", but mean "you can't erase history I care about". Under that thought anything is fair game if they don't like it. Hardly shocked if partial intent was to mess with info about the WWII bombings too.
