In some ways this is both Russias strength (their realpolitik approach that betrays allies if it helps them strategically) and also their weakness (atleast as long as this current “order” holds)

Yep, if Assad was little more than a geopolitical ally - and if it’s true that Russia squeaks out a deal to keep their military bases in Syria under the new government - then not much has changed for them apart from some PR embarrassments

Admittedly don’t know much about Jeffries, but it seems like he was a big step down from Pelosi (might also explain why Pelosi still wields so much power). Who else could’ve replaced her?

I think it was @ettingermentum.bsky.social that said a month ago the defining policy disagreement between Republicans and Democrats in 2028 would be wether to continue the war with Iran (bc we’re getting into it before then)
