FWIW, this is T&F submission tracker so IDK if it says "with editor" while editor is waiting for reviewers to agree to review. Last time I submitted something through them it went from "with editor" to "out for review" in 9 days

The buff vs. crying dog meme

Buff dog is labeled "A good methodology statement for a survey conducted online" and contains a partial excerpt from Pew's ATP methodology statement.

Sad dog is labeled "A bad methodology statement for a survey conducted online" and reads simply "The survey was conducted online." (You would think this is an exaggeration of how oversimplified bad methodology statements are, but it is not.)

Something that becomes clear whenever I'm engaged in the peer review process (either as author or reviewer), I care a lot less about capital-T Theory than most of my peers. Something I must have inherited from the political science side of my education...

I did a study that was really undermined by a failed manipulation.

I look at the small number of past studies that did a very similar manipulation...and they just dropped the people who did not respond correctly to the manipulation check 🫣

Pretty sure I've had 2 desk rejects in 2 attempts there, *but* they were quick and came with (associate) editor comments that were very helpful and even above the quality of a typical peer review. Very good experience 👍

Idle thought for reporting maestro @jrfegan.soxmachine.com: Civale's cutter has a totally different shape this season than in the past. He's gained about 5 inches of induced vertical break. Almost nobody with that combo of IVB and sideways movement...but hasn't worked for him yet either
