This is what I was thinking in my head when I was trying to figure out why Ontario does not permit red arrow aspects. How is a sign that says “left turn signal” better than just using red arrows?

Currently moving through the Canadian Shield/boreal forest of northern Ontario at a much more consistent speed than we managed west of Winnipeg.

Winnipeg is a slightly better stop. The station is quite lovely for one that only sees (4?) weekly departures. Once you step out of the station however, you are greeted by an 8-lane divided highway. Not the most welcoming environment.

Didn’t leave the train at Edmonton because of the late late arrival and this is the view of the city from the train. Sadly, the station is in the middle of a sparsely built employment area.

Made it to Jasper! Sadly, much of the town’s permanent residents are still living in temporary accommodations awaiting their homes to be rebuilt (not pictured too sad).

Also really into these modal filters that also double as 3rd places. They were not well used this week (8° and raining every day) but some of them even have a small stage!

I’m a really big fan of these roundabouts that are scattered around Vancouver. They were added into wider intersections and are very effective at slowing down cut-through traffic, while adding whimsy, tree canopy, and a little neighbourhood charm.

Shocking realization that this is the least windy, most comfortable part of my ride to the grocery store.

The back story on how the township’s boundaries came to be is positively stunning (source: Wikipedia)

Remember, Uber is an American company! Before requesting an uber, consider other options like bikeshare, public transport, or if you must, a local taxi.

Kingsville, ON greenhouse strawberries seem to be selling well at $6.99 (that’s loblaws’s normal gouging), meanwhile few people seem to be buying the American field strawberries from California at half price ($2.99).

Cycling to the grocery store, one week after back-to-back major snow storms.

Best efforts have been done here but I’m too exhausted to pile the snow any higher

That’s enough winter for one year, thanks!

I did what I could for this morning at the Dundurn @ Aberdeen Bikeshare Stn. One working bike excavated & 3 open slots. Will come back later in the day if needed :)

Apple does the same thing to special weather statements in Canada. ECCC is advising some freezing drizzle may cause light ice build up and slippery conditions. This is worth a minor advisory IMO. Apple weather however interprets as “THREAT TO LIFE OR PROPERTY” which is not at all what ECCC said.
