Nice chart from @ourworldindata.org showing the contrast between what Americans die of (heart disease and cancer) v what the US media reports on (homicide and terrorism). This naturally leads to it being trickier to build a fact based world view

Note: Based on the share of causes of death in the US and the share of mentions for each of the causes in the New York Times, the Washington Post and Fox News. All values are normalized to 100%, so the shares are relative to all deaths caused by the 12 most common causes + drug overdoses, homicides and terrorism. These causes account for more than 75% of deaths in the US.
A "media mention" is a published article in one of the outlets which mentions the cause (e,g. "influenza) or related keywords (e.g. "fu") least twice.

In case there was any ambiguity about which enemies Trump is intent on targeting, a national security directive published last week spelled it out:

Anyone who is not with him will be considered against him — and against the United States.

I am not sure Trump remembers this ancient past, and he was not woke enough to fight in the Vietnam war and was thus never drafted

Sounds like he is getting ready for a war with Ababajan

Trump: "The problem with Vietnam, we, you know, we stopped fighting to win. We would've won easy. We would've won Afghanistan easy. We would've won every war easy. But we got politically correct. 'Oh, let's take it easy.' We're not politically correct anymore, just so you understand."

Trump is looking at 2028 and he has to figure out, how does he circumvent or avoid the rule that he can't run again. I think one of the ways he's going to do that is to create what's perceived to be a real crisis in America."

Ten years ago when Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump was tweeting Mussolini quotes instead of trying to usher in a fascist regime. His candidacy should have been dead then.

One of the lessons I discuss in "On Tyranny":
Listen for dangerous words.
Text card: Listen for dangerous words.
Be alert to the use of the words extremism and terrorism. Be alive to the fatal notions of emergency and exception. Be angry about the treacherous use of patriotic vocabulary.

Yep! There is even great research that shows that these are precisely the kind of people, who would want to join the secret police -- because they are not good for anything else: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1...

I spoke to a Venezuelan woman who was arrested in this raid and later released with her 4yo son. She said agents broke down their door, pointed guns at them and made sexualized remarks about Venezuelan women. When she returned to her apartment it was boarded up and all her possessions were gone.

Soon Americans can use one-dollar Trump coins to rent at room in the Trump Towers, go there wearing clothes from the Trump Store, take some medicine from TrumpRx, then invest in $Trump and go on Truth Social on a Trump Mobile, and at last fall asleep reading a Trump bible in a bed from Trump home

The Treasury Department is developing a one-dollar commemorative coin, bearing the image of President Trump, for the nation’s 250th birthday. But it’s not clear that a coin could legally feature an image of Trump; an 1866 act established that only deceased people could appear on U.S. currency.

The coin, bearing President Trump’s face, would honor the 250th birthday of the United States.

I am wondering what the endgame is for the few Republican politicians, who care about the US (and the world). It is obvious that Trump is unfit for office, and it will get increasingly hard to ignore. Just take it one day at a time and hope for the best?

D: It's so dangerous! Our allies are looking elsewhere. Our enemies are laughing. You have a POTUS who's unwell.

Some schools will be starved of resources. Other schools will be offered bribes. The end goal is the same. To make the universities an extension of the Trump administration. Shame on any of these institutions willing to take the bribes.
Letters on Wednesday were going out to solicit agreement and feedback from Vanderbilt University, Dartmouth College, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Southern California, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Texas, the University of Arizona, Brown University and the University of Virginia, according to an administration official.

Trump's political project doesn't seem sustainable in the long run. It is too crazy, irrational, corrupt, and inhuman. There are other regimes through history that were way worse and managed to cling to power for a period, but they were mostly revolutionary and faced weaker institutions and

Trump has decided that no jobs report will issue on Friday due to the government shutdown. But it turns out there is a different reason: that report will, when issued, be catastrophically bad.
atrupar.com
CNBC: "Very disappointing. It's a weak number. This is private sector jobs for September. The total comes in -32,000. And that was a surprise because economists were looking for an increase of 51,000. Also, the revision was not good. August now showing -3,000 compared to the initial read of 54,000"
