“Knowing that you love the earth changes you, activates you to defend and protect and celebrate. But when you feel that the earth loves you in return, that feeling transforms the relationship from a one-way street into a sacred bond.”~Robin Wall Kimmerer
A picture of tenacity and perseverance: a little gecko holding onto our windscreen as we drive down a motorway. Thankfully she maintained her grip until we could stop and move her to a tree. Am humbled and inspired. #LearningFromNature

Declaring that the president of the USA is “wrong” feels as foolish as this little flower daring to bring beauty in lifeless tarmac. But we do it anyway.
So I signed this: Statement from White South African Christian Leaders on Recent Actions by the US Government

We don’t need to pretend the brokenness in ourselves or in the world is not there in order for us to celebrate Christmas. It is for this very brokenness that Jesus came, so vulnerably, to love and to heal and to restore.

Seriously!??! What kind of luminous lime green creature has our cat brought us!?!?

The dark rain clouds slowly moving over the sea towards us, but for this moment we enjoy the sun dancing on the wild waves. Being present to what is, not letting the beauty be too quickly washed away by the fear of what may come. 📍Scarborough Cape Town

Abundance. These 2 tomatoes carry so many seeds. Both from a bush that bore handfuls of fruit. All this from 1 seed. So much abundance built into the more-than-human world. When did we lose sight of this & define ourselves by scarcity; & with that fear, hoarding, greed & poverty? #LearningFromPlants

Creating space for others to be - just by being who you are. Nature is not always about competition, often it’s about collaboration. #LearningFromPlants

Hearing from a Climate Scientist about climate impacts coming to Cape Town: sea level rise, flooding, heat waves and more! What does resilience look like in a desperately unequal city like ours?

Outside Standard Bank branch: the fight to resist Standard Bank’s investment in a massive oil pipeline in East Africa is still needed. Human rights abuses and environmental destruction happening already, plus massive C02 emissions.

City of Cape Town rep answering our questions - they can’t tell us if their staffs pension fund is investing in fossil fuels. Went on to explain all that the city is doing to adapt to the coming climate shocks. Good to see some solutions & preparations being done. Not nearly enough tho.

Walking through the train station - Cape Town really needs to invest in electric public transport powered by renewables. So much potential here for that.

Next stop at The Castle - built by the Dutch East India Company in 1666. Considered how shareholder corporations had (have) militaries to enforce “business-as-usual” for their own benefit.

Inspiring talk outside the Desmond Tutu Foundation. He was convinced there was power in peoples movements & a strong advocate for divestment campaigns as part of the anti-apartheid struggle. He would have supported the call to divest from fossil fuels.

Next stop Parliament: Interesting questions about parliamentarian’s pension fund and their commitment (or lack thereof) to ethical investing. Are our politicians personally invested in fossil fuels & climate destruction?

1st stop: the Slave Lodge, reflected on the economic model of the Dutch East India Company extracting labour from slaves & exploiting natural resources, destroying ecosystems and human societies, to benefit a small group of shareholders. Humanity hasn’t improved on this model!

On Friday I joined FossilFreeSA for an Investment Justice Walk through Cape Town. Started at St George’s a historic and current site of resistance to injustice.
