Oof, Metroid Prime 4 is really not great. The story is nonsense, there are a horde of smaller annoying issues like randomly unskippable cinematics, camera and aiming issues... The pacing and level design are haphazard. The end boss is especially annoying and the ending is blatantly unsatisfying.

Tonight's meal is roast beef, roasted potatoes, and broccoli. I haven't made roast beef in quite a while and as I've aged, I've lost a lot of my taste for beef, but it turned out quite nicely.

Why is Best Buy's website so profoundly awful? You'd think a company that prides itself on tech and geek expertise would be able to run a site that doesn't load like ass.

I have to admit I was hoping for more scathing than this provides, but there are a couple good zingers.

I was today years old when I learned that Sesame Street's the Count's full name is actually Count von Count.

iRobot just filed for bankruptcy, partially thanks to the idiotic tariffs going on, but it's just the latest of the flood of smart device makers going under. I doubt Roombas will suddenly become doorstops, but it's really hard to trust any tech product is particularly safe from this kind of crap.

This is like an April's Fool gag that somehow got made...Possibly the most absurd piece of frivolous tech I've seen in a bit.

Telly, a regal and majestic beast who lives in my home, likes the snow.

Due to have a potentially substantial snow storm today, but the new TV arrived so so long as the power doesn't go out, I'll be occupied and toasty this weekend. One thing I don't like about this LG OLED is how damn thin it is.

SOMA is $1.50 on Steam. If you like head trip horrorish games, this is absolutely one of my favorite games of the last decade.

Finally finished Resident Evil 4 Remake. Leon is like a James Bond who never gets laid. That's pretty much what I got out of it. There should be DLC where you're the shopkeeper just running constantly to stay slightly ahead of Leon so he can keep buying and selling shit.

Ugh. Metroid Prime 4 has back-to-back boss (or boss-ish) battles, which is a thing I really hate. It also seems to have a lot of really long swaths of long corridor-type sections, which isn't great, but on the whole it's been gorgeous and interesting so far.

On a related note, rack CD players are absurdly expensive now.
December 8, 2025 at 4:51 PM
For a product type with a limited amount of choices, shopping for a 4K Blu-ray player is surprisingly complicated. It seems that unless you want to go over a grand that all roads still lead to the Panasonic UB820, which isn't cheap either, but supports all HDR formats.

Wow. #Denon has a really looking cool app to fine tune the speakers/audio for their receivers and charges $20 for the damn thing. That's quite the fuck you to their customers.
December 7, 2025 at 6:52 PM
Minor annoyances with new Denon AV receiver. No damn printed manual in the box. Just a link to a website version and a downloadable PDF. Also, it confusingly refers to a 5.1.2 speaker set up as a 7.1, including the Atmos speakers in the main speaker count.

I had to install the Windows app for my beloved Logitech Harmony Elite remote to actually make any changes to my setup with it, as the Android app craps out whenever I tried, but it at least still works.

I feel like we're all just little Neros playing a fiddle and dancing while Rome burns, except the fiddle is video games or streaming services or whatever you're into at any given minute. Nothing helps quell the alarm of society being a raging dumpster fire like a new Metroid game, for instance.

We're watching Hitchcock's the Birds. I don't think it's a good movie, but some of the scenes are really impressive from a filmmaking perspective. How do you get that many crows to just hang around a jungle gym like that?

Watching WarGames makes me miss the Cold War.

Wow was Caught Stealing marketed wrong. Even Netflix lists it as a comedy and you'd think that thanks to the inappropriate trailer, but it definitely is not.

My wife and youngest have decided to watch the Marvel movies, as said child is new to them, and thus far Disney+ has been shit for picture quality. Usually, I consider them to have better than usual quality, but maybe they throttle old stuff that people don't watch much anymore?
November 29, 2025 at 11:15 PM
Playdate on Amazon is of the exact quality I expect from a Kevin James vehicle, but I actually feel sorry for Alan Ritchson, who I really like generally. It's a terrible movie with a bizarrely disturbing, unsatisfying ending. But at least it's short.
