But it is DEFINITELY racist to be upset, offended, bothered, scared, annoyed, angry, irritated, intimidated by it.

Can confirm my school (where I worked) still has exactly these and I think I might have used them.......twice? in 36 years.
Back in the 70s my own primary school had 'the apps' which were death trap metal structures in the playground. No supervision. (St Mary's Clophill, if you were there 😊).

It's beyond my comprehension to understand why this 'purity' is so important to them. Are they equally concerned about people with one French, Polish or Australian parent? How far back do they go? Irish, Polish, Huguenot, Dutch, German, Norman, Viking heritage ok?
