It’s really not a stretch to imagine the return of an Un-American Activities Committee, sniffing out sm posts for hurty words and id’ing citizens who protest. Those on the economic blacklist would pledge loyalty or see their bank accounts frozen, SS halted, utilities shut off, etc.
