21 ~ NUFC fan ~ Interested in the tactical side of the game, often write about it as well.
Seemed to (re) switch Bruno and Sandro around during the game. Thought we immediately started to sustain pressure and defend counter attacks once we done that.

From an #NUFC pov, January may be too early but if he is available I’d love us to go back in in the summer. 6/ #NUFC

He doesn’t dominate his box like the very top in football but I think he has the potential to improve imo.

City are mad to sell imo but if Trafford is pushing for a move then I guess they might have to bite the bullet. Who ever picks him up I’d be very excited. 5/ #NUFC

He’s got the potential one of the best shot stoppers and sweepers in England (potentially Europe) for me, he’s so quick of his line, very aggressive and often shows composure when winning the ball. Do I need to explain why the shot stopping, he over performed his PSXG by 11.7 last season 4/ #NUFC

Trafford’s IQ in build up scenarios is super high, constantly pointing and instructing players around him. Then you coincide this with his very impressive ability on the ball, you’ve got a very valuable ball playing keeper. 3/ #NUFC

Trafford is averaging 4.25 actions outside of his pen area per 90, wayyyy more than Donnarumma (0.64) and also more than Pope and Ramsdale (2.67 and 0).

I often feel Trafford gets unfairly viewed because of the few high profile mistakes in the Premier League… He’s only 23 🤷‍♂️ 2/ #NUFC

Wilson can go long where Fulham have now been able to have a 5v4 on Spurs due to the overaggressive nature of Spurs' press. Fulham win a second ball very easy and from this attack they score.

We’ve been unlucky not to score from more this season.

Benfica and Fulham we had a routine which was created us a couple huge chances.

Ah, makes sense

Why would you like him to give him minutes at home rather than away?

We created three chances that had a XG higher than 0.1 (0.15 and 0.11). That is not good enough. Would we play with negative at home? I don't think so, so why is it different away. There is an obvious mentality issue, not just with the players but the coaching staff as well. 10/ #NUFC

Overall, I thought the game plan wasn't actually that bad, but it was a negative approach to a game where we are a superior side and that's where my frustration lies. It's an approach where we are relying on counter attacks, our press and set pieces for our chance creation. 9/ #NUFC

A simple up, back and through pattern and we could exploit this space, Tonali did in the first half and he got a shot off from it, then never to be seen again. So annoying, we just needed a bit more settled possession. 8/ #NUFC

Another frustrating thing about yesterday was when we did have the ball in the second third of the pitch, we could actually cause Marseille issues. We had a 4v2 in midfield with our inside forwards. This caused their wide centre backs to step up and space was available in behind. 7/ #NUFC

The space between the players, it's too wide. I understand it makes us harder to press but it also makes it harder for us to build out. Very often leads to us going long and rely on second balls to progress play, it's not a reliable way to build out and we need more solutions in this phase. #NUFC 6/

Now here come the negatives...

Build up play, build up play, build up play. Individual error after individual error. I do think a lack of technical quality and sloppiness is the main issue but i do want to point to something else. 5/ #NUFC

We done very well in that sense and when we did win the ball back, we moved up the pitch quickly and offered a threat but just didn't have the final action. 4/ #NUFC

Another positive to take away is how solid we were in our mid-low block and low block, the gaps were minimal and we forced Marseille wide a lot and this is a side that don't want to cross, their strengths come from quick central combinations. #NUFC 3/

A lot of the initial pressure came from Bruno or Tonali, trying to block off them central lanes, we just didn't want them to move centrally. Which usually leads to the opposition moving the ball wide. Pressing was a really positive takeaway for me that. 2/ #NUFC
