True, but when you’re hiring from a decreasing talent pool the kids you bring in (and inevitably churn out) won’t be good enough. Some kids decide to power through and make manager regardless of how much public accounting sucks. It’s definitely easier to do than 7-8 years ago.

I think part of the issue in public accounting is the lack of accountants. Those who lack the skills to manage an engagement end up promoted because there’s no one else to promote.
