How many were killed on Telegraph before they did this? They have reduced the traffic because everyone, including cyclists are avoiding it. It is freaky. Cars have to turn across the paths without sightlines. It wasn't good before, but it would be nice to see comparative statistics.

Right. I have no problem with traditional bike lanes on those wide boulevards. It's the complete rearrangement of busy streets like Telegraph Ave in Oakland that is crazy. No sensible rider ever used that route. Now it is hazardous to pedestrians as well as cyclists. And confusing to motorists.

I have been biking in the east bay for 55 years. I use quiet, parallel streets, some with bike lanes. I do not use the new "protected" lanes on busy streets. They are terrifying.

The police in every major city are maga. They may have democratic or even liberal mayors and councils, but they don't answer to them.. Why not build bridges to the only allies you have instead of complaining that they don't do everything you want? The only people on your side.
