Many thanks to @regstud.bsky.social and @rsablog.bsky.social for giving me the opportunity to share my thoughts on designing better maps in academia. And to @cchlebna.bsky.social for encouragement and feedback.

Looking forward to this, too!

I’ve been reflecting on public transport in rural-peripheral regions over the past weeks. I’ve put my thoughts together in a longer post, you can read it here: www.linkedin.com/posts/jakob-...

Von heute. Ging schneller, als gedacht. 😔

And just like that, I’ve come full circle. Back at Vienna Meidling station. Right on time.

Now settled into my triple sleeper compartment on Nightjet 467 to Vienna. After a few surprises this evening, everything’s back on track. Good night!

Arrived in Zurich with a bit of time to stroll around the station—and what a station Zurich HB is!

A TGV Lyria was provided as a replacement—though, unfortunately, it’s hopelessly overcrowded. Not exactly the seamless Swiss train experience I had in mind. Still, the main concern now is making my connection in Zurich.

What a fantastic weekend in Basel—drifting in the Rhine was the perfect way to beat the heat. My IC 787 to Zurich was unfortunately cancelled due to construction work, but it gave me the unexpected chance to chat with the famously friendly Swiss railway staff.

A brief stop in Saint Louis before continuing on to Basel SBB. I’ve never heard train staff apologize so often—for being just five minutes late!

Leaving Paris behind on the 07:21 TGV Lyria to Basel. It’s a pity I had so little time to explore Gare de Lyon.

The @economist.com‘s consumer survey definitely stands out compared to others I’ve taken in the past.

Arrived at Gare de l’Est with almost the exact delay we started with in Vienna. I’ll be exploring Paris over the next few days before continuing on to Switzerland.

Woke up in France this morning. Unfortunately, we didn’t make up any of the delay overnight. As always, it’s a bit of a shame they don’t pick up fresh croissants in Strasbourg for breakfast—and now even the orange juice has vanished from the menu.

Saying goodbye to Austria with a late departure from Salzburg. Now waiting for passport control as the journey continues.

Embarking on a little train adventure over the next few days! First up: the ÖBB Nightjet 468 to Paris. A two-hour delay gave me an unexpected chance to take in the charm of Vienna Meidling station.
