As a high earner I'm fine with the idea that at least some of that money would come from higher taxes on people like me. Not just because of helping others out but because it means if I get unlucky there will be a robust safety net for me

To be fair, the same company also regularly says AI is really scary. Because it's so powerful, not because of the number of bugs it pushes to production

In any feasible implementation I'd be a net loser through increased tax. But it would mean my taxes go towards helping those less fortunate and I'd still have income if I lost my job so I'm still fully in favour

My grandma grew up in India as part of the Raj, and was always adamant that there was no mingling with the natives. When I did 23 and me and told her I was 5% Indian she doubled down, then called me out of the blue months later to apologise

It's like trying to come up with a definition for concepts like game, cult or pornography that cleanly separate things that seem obviously in one camp or the other. I'd say it's not thinking, but it's definitely not intelligent

If I clicked "add story" in ADO and got a task that would be an immediate bug report but it's just expected that this thing that's apparently going to make me 10x as productive will regularly throw up these roadblocks

So am I, and in a company where the instructions are to use it or look for another job so I'm trying to be open minded but just keep running into this stuff. Told it to break a feature down into stories recently, went right through refining them and it spat out a load of tasks

Any other software that regularly does things so contrary to what you've instructed it to do would be considered broken, buggy and not fit for purpose, but because LLMs are considered "intelligent" we paradoxically put up with much more stupidity
