It's classic Tory stuff. They regard subjects like English as only suitable for the effete rich kids of Oxbridge and the like. A stereotype, true, but one they believe in. Doubtless the next step will be to attack widening access policies in upper universities.

Although she did play the same basic game of promising to cut spending and taxes here there and everywhere. In practise, she brought down taxes for the well off and put them up a lot for everyone else.

It's just another empty rerun of the many previous times when proposed Tory governments have promised to 'set loose' the housing market. The big winners would of course be all the existing outright home owners, with surging prices. It would do nothing for the economy except more inflation.

This juicy plum appears to be from Reeves, although Starmer doubtless approves. Basically they are going to end national parks as we have known them. Certain parks, the Lake District, the New Forest, the South Downs and the Peak District in particular, will be carpet bombed with development.

To be fair, it is extremely hard work (positively fatigue inducing) to sit in one's million pound house whilst it grows to become worth £2m in 10 years. One feels every pound passing through, deep in one's bones.

That used to be the case, but the membership rump that's left now is pretty solidly ageing white racists, as it is with Reform. The voters might be a different matter - lots and lots of former Tory voters in the Home Counties and elsewhere have switched to the LibDems and others.

He's surrounded himself with people who basically think Israel=good and Palestine=bad and nothing is going to shake them. They are the Labour Friends of Israel and very little to do with what we used to call democratic socialism. They are wedded to far right Likudnik views and frameworks.

UK banks have cut their staffing levels to the bone. The result is chaos and misery for customers with absolutely standard problems like powers of attorney. These are no longer, in effect, proper banks.

I remember her and her outstanding courage. This was at the time when western leaders were still eager to appease Putin and pretend he was a normal politician they could 'work with'.
