I'm going to vote for her - but yes, this stuff is annoying

Unity of purpose comes not from command and control but by taking people with us & winning the argument.

As a full time Deputy Leader I will tell a stronger story about what Labour is for, whose side we’re on, the good things that we are doing.

Yeah, Simon is a excellent fit in that seat. Quite a few of the Green facing seats have good fits tbh
jamesdaustin.bsky.social
Maybe he'll reconsider later

It is very good to see you back out again - and yeah, long term injury is awful, especally when your life is based around sport
jamesdaustin.bsky.social
Yeah, that's the big systemic risk for Labour and where my biggest fear is.

The NIMBYism point is a good one - but there are risks to not building and climate action might help to address those concerns. But if the global economy blows god knows
jamesdaustin.bsky.social
It is - and this is how you build sustainably under FPTP. LD's have done the same.

I'm not convinced they've done the work yet on it (agree on Plaid - and also agree we are underestimating the Greens, tho signs we're now waking up to that)
jamesdaustin.bsky.social
It is - but I'm not sure the Greens are based placed to pick up voters we shed (or that Labour is totally anti-populism, frankly)
jamesdaustin.bsky.social
Yes, I think we would. That strain is shifting slightly and if the choice is 'Govt or not' we'd always pick govt.
jamesdaustin.bsky.social
Eeesh, thats incredibly tough. My wife is just coming back from a long injury lay off and experiencing the same. It's incredibly difficult just to get started - well done for keeping going with it!

And yes, resiliance and, I guess, appreciation of how difficult it is
jamesdaustin.bsky.social
There is - but my point is that the LD's and Labour don't face each other in many seats, broadly hold a progressive/social democratic stance (with Labour slightly more social authoritatian) and fufil the same basic role.

Lots of crossover for a comfortable coalition
jamesdaustin.bsky.social
And they're not trying to spread their coalition either.
jamesdaustin.bsky.social
I mean, it is a dumb thing to do - but I just don't see that many seats with the right characteristics unless the Greens hugely expand their coalition. Even in Bristol you have 2 potential gains, one of which is as likely to go Reform.
jamesdaustin.bsky.social
I very much doubt he will be (and yes, i think so)
jamesdaustin.bsky.social
I suspect they would if its that or Farage (and with Lab - we basically work as a dual party anyways)
jamesdaustin.bsky.social
Not sure I see it: given how inefficient their vote is they'd need to be hitting 16%+ and FPTP makes it hard for them to break through - particularly in a election that will be defined by negative polarisation

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

Monstrous.

"federal agents detained nearly every resident of the 130-unit building—including children and babies—placing them in zip ties and separating them by race into vans for more than two hours early Tuesday morning."

Good reporting on the South Shore raid from South Side weekly here.

Confirms one thing I was told but didn't put in my own piece because I didn't have a second source and it seemed too insane: border agents segregated arrested residents by race

Families were woken by flashbangs and helicopters as hundreds of federal agents raided their homes. Days later, neighbors are still searching for the missing.

I think you can get LDs, Plaid and SNP into a workable coalition with Lab.

Greens harder under present leadership - but not sure they'll have huge numbers
jamesdaustin.bsky.social
Can you imagine how the Greens would blow up on that?

But yes, thats the good outcome
