#3. We Begin at the End by Chris Whitaker

This melodrama falls outside my usual reading roster, I had to admire Whitaker’s skill w/ narrative. Some of it felt over-written, but when the plot rolls downhill towards its numerous reveals, the author shows his true talents. #2026ReadingList #booksky

#2. The Harder I Fight the More I Love You by Neko Case

Potent memoir about love, acceptance, and the trauma of childhood from one of my favorite voices in contemporary music. Soulful and personal retelling of her youth and struggle to accept and love herself as an adult.

Perversely excited to finally see the K2 4K up for pre-order. I finally get to scratch off another #NotonBluRay disc from my wishlist spreadsheet. amzn.to/4qtGQTl

Friendly reminder that this Amazon ARROW VIDEO “sale” is once again a price match of the BARNES & NOBLE sale. Patronize the originator and not the imitator.

#1. The Möbius Book by Catherine Lacey

Insightful memoir/prose re: love, mortality, loss (with a clever gimmick!), but the serialized vignettes of the one half became a grind, and I was far more engaged with the narrative of the other. Not sure it totally worked? Not sure it didn’t #ReadingList2026

Time for the #LastFourWatched. Not playing the hits this week.

The world is falling apart, but at least I finally have John Woo’s BULLET IN THE HEAD on something better than that old Fortune Star DVD.

I took the morning off from the gym because my old ass body needed a minute after yesterday (long-ish story), so #nw Paul Verhoeven’s FLESH + BLOOD (1985) because @cinemashame.bsky.social.

And in other news MY BLUE HEAVEN became my first @letterboxd.social “review” to reach 200 likes. What do I win? Do I get an iron-on badge?

Morning coffee and a movie. #nw CULT OF THE DAMNED (1969) dir. Robert Thom. AIP late-60’s psychedelia counterculture satire (I guess). Thom wrote some really good Corman scripts, but there’s a good reason why this was the only film he directed.

Yikes. Roddy seems to be enjoying himself, though.

30. The Last Mixtape by Seth Long

I love a good overthinkpiece about the value and detriments of nostalgia — especially when it dissects a personal passion in a more thoughtful way than I ever could.

29. Live From New York by James Andrew Miller and Tom Shales

Exhaustive, endless collection of stories, anecdotes, and grievances SNL’s stars and writers. Lots of insight into the history of the series from the inside out, but I worried it would never end. #booksky

28. Prisoners of the Castle by Ben MacIntyre

These Ben MacIntyre books culled from the unclassified WWII files have been a series of delights. This was probably my least favorite to date and I still devoured it. #booksky #2025ReadingList

27. Dark Renaissance by Stephen Greenblatt

As thorough and thoughtful as you’d expect from a Greenblatt. As someone who’s read many many books of Shakespeare and about Shakespeare, I felt like this insight into Marlow and his work filled in a major piece of the puzzle.

26. Tart by “Slutty Chef”

This was more interested in the slutty than the chef part of the book. I was hoping this was more kitchen confidential and less insecure twenty-something has a lot of sex and finds herself and also cooks. Quick read. Next.
