Define "getting involved". I find protests ineffective. What is effective is VOTING; working the polls; contributing to pro bono legal groups. There are ways to get involved without publicly showing your involvement.

Personally, I don't think the federal government should be funding education, only establishing standards. Thus, comparing local government funding vs. federal funding has nothing to do with prioritizing federal spending in my opinion.
